And since then I’ve had this little voice in my head yelling at me that I am stronger than a thousand men! (listen to the link at the end). I can’t tell you how this story has energized my soul, the one of Jen and Odette and little girls under trees reading in Rwanda. It reminded me to believe again… That we are strong and we can do many things, even the impossible. So on your most impossible day, may you find hope and find the courage to do what it is you fear the most.

Finally, a heart leaf.

Since the first I heard of Love Thursday I was always envious of those heart leaf shots. Where on earth do leaves grow like hearts?! Finally, I found my heart in a botanical garden. I can’t tell you how excited I was… and how it was that moment I knew that my love of shutter sisters was real, I saw the leaf and thought “finally, a heart leaf for Love Thursday”.
Happy Love Thursday!

Yesterday I was telling my husband that I wasn’t feeling like there was any new pictures to take. So I sat on the ground, outside a metro station and shot up.
Hope your weekend is as beautiful as mine has been. The weather is GORGEOUS!

Hope is something that I’ve always felt at odds with. I’ve been through a lot in my life, and people would always tell me to have hope, but it never seemed to register. I decided at some point that I would start giving hope out.. Sending anonymous cards to people leaving notes in public places (thanks to hoperevo.com. Hope I decided was something to be given, not necessarily something to look for.
My friend Jen is taking hope on a plane and traveling to Rwanda, in a story that left me with a tremendous amount of hope, she explains it all here: jenlemen.com/blog/?p=368.
Take hope wherever you go today… and give it away.

Today is Love Thursday at Shutter Sisters. I took this photo in Asheville, NC, a place that I really do love.
I was thinking about what act of love I might be able to write about on Love Thursday and had this flash of a memory that I thought I’d share. Back, when I was working for the nursing home there was a man named Joe who love everyone, or so it seemed. He called all the ladies “apple pie”. Later he would tell us that he did that because he couldn’t remember all of our names. He was a sweet man with a lot of stories to tell. But the thing that you should know about Joe, is that he never let go of his wifes hand. She was in a almost vegetative state, she was on a rolling bed, most days if she blinked it was a miracle. Joe insisted that his wife be near him as much as possible, and when she was, he held her hand. He told me once that he was so afraid of forgetting what it felt like to hold his wifes hand, and that he wanted her to know that he was not going to let go, because he loved her so much. Joe’s wife passed away while he was holding her hand, he refused to let go of her hand until the very end. I remember walking into his room after his wife passed, and a visibly shaken Joe looked at me with tears in his eyes and told me he was forgetting what it was like to hold her hand. His soul ached for this woman who he had been married to for almost 70 years. We sat in his room, beside the empty bed and Joe and I held hands, and he told me story after story about his wife, and how much he loved her. He told me that when I found love to not let go of it, no matter what. This Love Thursday, hold the hand of the ones you love, and don’t let go..
